Welcome to Johnson Hardwood and Tree Care! We offer a wide range of services including locally sourced lumber, live-edge slabs, custom sawing, handcrafted cabinetry and furniture.

While we take great pride in creating beautiful pieces from our milled lumber, we are equally committed to preserving the health and longevity of trees whenever possible. Chris holds a degree in Forestry and is a licensed pesticide applicator, with expertise in treating ash trees affected by Emerald Ash Borer, as well as addressing a variety of other tree health concerns.

Large Live-Edge Slabs

With the addition of our latest mill, we are now capable of producing hardwood slabs up to 76 inches thick.

These large slabs are ideal for creating distinctive tables, desks, and other custom furniture pieces. Whether you prefer to craft your own design or have our team bring it to life for you, we are here to help turn your vision into reality.

In Stock and Custom Sawn Lumber

We offer a wide selection of in-stock lumber, available in both green and dried options. In addition, we provide custom sawing services for a variety of hardwood species, including Ash, Maple, Elm, and Walnut. Please contact us for availability of additional species.

My name is Chris Johnson, and I was born and raised among the forests of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. I earned my degree in Forestry from the University of Arkansas and now operate a sawmill and woodshop just outside of Albert City, Iowa.

Working with wood has been a lifelong passion of mine. From treating trees to protect them against insects and disease to milling lumber and crafting custom furniture for homes and businesses, this work is more than a career—it’s a way of life.

Johnson Hardwood and Tree Care is a small, family-oriented operation. I work alongside one dedicated employee, and my wife also plays an active role in supporting the business. When you call, message, or stop by, you’ll be working directly with me. I take pride in providing personal service and will work closely with you to ensure your vision is brought to life.
